PHONE SCRIPT:

Hello,

My name is Name and I live in City, Province.

I am calling you from the Canadian Campaign for Afghan Peace to urge you to support to take immediate action for Afghanistan.

Canada needs to recognize the moral imperative to resettle more Afghans. This includes accepting at least double the number of Afghans, ensure that Afghan civilians who are trapped in Afghanistan are included, make it clear that Hazaras are included in the vulnerable group category, allow new applicants who are not in the current system, and urgently tell us your plan for eliminating barriers to the process considering that you have closed your embassy.

Canada also needs to provide further and emergency humanitarian aid through funding NGOs and humanitarian partners on the ground. Afghans need lifesaving resources like food, clothing, water, shelter, and vaccines.

Justin Trudeau needs to ensure that Canada is proactively engaging in diplomacy on the international stage through forums like the UN and ensuring that any engagement with the Taliban be conditional upon preserving the progress we have achieved over the past 20 years in terms of human rights. This includes championing efforts to guarantee the security and protection of girls, women, and ethnic and religious minorities.

We appreciate that Canada is a global champion in promoting peace, development, and human rights around the world. All that is needed is the willpower. We are counting on your support. Thank you for your time.
